Renault Clio 200

A firm favourite here at Driving Heroes, the Renaultsport Clio 200 is essentially a revised and improved follow-up to the Clio197 that precedes it. The wonderful 2.0 n/a engine loves to rev and sings its best tune high up in the range – coupled with improved steering and handling over the 197 it was always going to be a winner.

Here we have an Ultra Red example, wearing a ‘CLIO’ numberplate which is included in the sale. It’s wearing freshly refurbished 17” Cup wheels in Anthracite Grey with brand new Kumho tyres all round, there are some minor age-related blemishes to the body work, but nothing serious. The interior is in such excellent condition, you’d be forgiven for thinking the mileage was significantly less than it is – partly in thanks to a fresh steering wheel and gear knob trimmed in black alcantara with yellow stitching by the clever folks at Royal Steering Wheels.

We have two keys, and a full set of manuals in the original wallet which include numerous stamps in the service history. There’s evidence of a Cam Belt / Dephaser / Water Pump in 2016 at 32,000 miles and again in October 2024 at the current mileage. At the same time in this Clio 200 was treated to a service including new spark plugs and a new clutch, too, meaning it’s in superb mechanical order.

On the open road, this car reflects the work that’s gone into it – sharp, tight, it pulls cleanly and enormous fun to pilot along a British B-Road thanks to its silky smooth (crunch free) gearbox. Thanks to a recent four-wheel Hunter alignment it is arrow-straight, just as it left the factory. It’s no wonder so many previous owners of these Clio’s return for another dose, they’re beyond addictive.
